Interpreting NPC20

Last month’s 20th National Party Congress in Beijing has certainly created many points of discussion, debate and speculation. After weeks of build up and anticipation, it delivered a result which exceeded most expectations and has settled, at least for now, the direction of China’s Communist Party in the medium term and the continued leadership of President Xi Jinping for an unprecedented third term.

My friends at Open Door have done a good job of presenting their Key Takeaways from the 20th Party Congress to those of us searching for news on the future direction of China’s economy and an interpretation of President Xi’s comments during the NPC meeting. Areas of particular interest include:

  • The balancing of security versus economic progress and development
  • Interpreting the impact of “Common Prosperity”
  • The future of the property and technology sectors
  • The easing of the Covid zero policy
  • Foreign policy and the military, including areas of particular interest: Taiwan and Hong Kong

Please go ahead and download the paper from this link and forward to others who have an interest in a balanced and objective view of what was said and how it will be viewed by the markets.
