Gearing Up for China: Tasmanian Tourism Training Program

Further rapid growth in visitor arrivals to Tasmania is expected in coming months, as well as a possible visit to Tasmania by the Chinese President.

The Tasmanian Government has made funding available for Tourism Industry Council Tasmania (TICT) to run a series of practical workshops for tourism operators across the state, in partnership with the Regional Tourism Organisations (RTOs).

The workshops will be conducted by leading Asian tourism expert, Richard Beere, who has been a frequent visitor to Tasmania over recent years, including recent presentations at the Tasmanian Tourism Conference 2014.

As we gear up for more visitors from China, every tourism operator is working from a different base level of engagement with the Chinese visitor market. The Tasmanian tourism training program workshops are tailored to three different levels – from Tasmanianintroductory workshops for operators wanting to develop a basic understanding of Chinese travellers, through to more advanced workshops for operators wanting to actively tailor their products to the Chinese market. We are also offering practical customer service workshops in Hobart, Launceston and Cradle Mountain for front line staff engaging with Chinese visitors at our hotels, attractions, experiences and visitor information services.

We encourage you to consider which workshop is most appropriate you and your staff, register to attend at least one of the sessions, and start gearing up for China.

We urge you to take advantage of this initiative and join the industry-wide effort to further develop Tasmania’s growing reputation as a highly desirable, friendly and hospitable destination for the Chinese visitor market.

The Tasmanian Tourism training program is supported through funding from the Tasmanian Government, TICT and the RTOs.
In some regions sessions have been entirely sponsored by the local RTO and are in fact free to attend. For other sessions there is a small participation fee to cover costs.

If you are unsure which session is best suited for your needs, please contact TICT or your RTO.
