AustCham Shanghai has announced its CSR Partners for the Great Australian Ball which will be held on September 14, 2013 at Shanghai’s Kerry Hotel Pudong.
The annual ball has a reputation for the zanny costumes it attracts on the night – this year’s theme is EPIC. Each year the sell-out ball attracts 700 revellers from the Australia-China business community.
This year the Great Australian Ball celebrates 18 years. In that time, it has raised over RMB 3 million for charities. Proceeds from this year’s event will go towards Habitat for Humanity China, working hand-in-hand together with Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA China) to build five fresh housing renovations in Shanghai over the next two years and Stepping Stones I Care project, which provides professional eye-testing and optical glasses for migrant students in Shanghai.
The GAB will also mark a global first for the collaboration between Habitat for Humanity China and MDA China, through the auspices of AustCham Shanghai who were instrumental in initiating this innovative CSR program in China.
Ms Changqing Zhu, Director of MDA China is well-known as a Para-Olympic torch bearer at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, and has an active involvement with the sister organization in Australia, where Australian media icon, Ita Buttrose is Patron.
“We are very excited to be working with AustCham Shanghai on this global first to supply housing renovations to MDA China,” said Mr Kester Yim, Managing Director of Habitat for Humanity China.
“Australians are renowned for rolling up their sleeves and getting involved and this work is quite physical and they are all looking forward to the opportunity to volunteer and help.” ■
