Hong Kong Australia Business Association: Koalas to put SA on the map

The arrival of eight koala bears from South Australia at Hong Kong’s popular Ocean Park will expose the southern Australian state to 7 million people a year.

7 million people prepare to get that “South Australia” feeling…

The South Australian Government, in conjunction with The South Australian Tourism Commission, The Hong Kong Economic Trade Office, The Hong Kong Australia Business Association South Australian Chapter & The Cleland Wildlife Park are working together to arrange a gift of eight South Australian Koalas for Hong Kong’s premier theme attraction, Ocean Park.

The concept was originally developed by Lt. Governor of South Australia & Patron of the Hong Kong Australia Business Association South Australia Chapter Mr Hieu Van Le AO.

Since opening in 1977, more than 110 million visitors have enjoyed Ocean Park, ahkaba_ocean_park_webcombination of sea exhibits, animal exhibits and rides. When the Koalas arrive some time in 2014, it is likely Ocean Park will average around 7 million visitors every year… that’s 7,000,000 visitors each year!

A dedicated “enclosure” is being built to house the Koalas at Ocean Park in what will effectively become a “Permanent South Australian Promotion” at Hong Kong’s most popular attraction. The Koalas have the potential to dramatically increase the awareness of all things South Australian in Hong Kong & China.

The Hong Kong Australia Business Association South Australian Chapter is proud to be involved in this project. The HKABA-SA promotes trade, builds relationships and helps create cultural understanding between South Australia, Hong Kong SAR and Mainland China.

Wine News

Demand for wine and premium spirits in the Chinese mainland market is strong in particular. As consumers there become more knowledgeable about wine, so their tastes are becoming more sophisticated. According to Euromonitor International, wine sales in China amounted to US$33.1 billion in 2011, increased 143 percent compared to five years ago. Hong Kong itself has a long track record in the wine and spirits industry. Its status as a trading hub for wine has been strengthened in recent years.

The Hong Kong International Wine & Spirits Fair is more than just a trading platform. In keeping with a convivial industry where personal relationships are important, the show seeks to educate, inform and entertain. It offers a premium opportunity for wine & spirits producers and distributors to introduce their philosophy, their methods and their branding.

A Wine Education zone made the debut in 2012 to cultivate wine appreciation and provide training for industry professionals. The wine education offerings ranged from daily fine wine-tasting sessions to master classes and seminars. There were also cocktail demonstrations showcasing various types of spirits. With over 20,000 international buyers attending and almost 1,000 exhibitors this is truly one of Asia biggest Wine Events.

The Hong Kong International Wine and Spirits Fair 2013 will be held this year from November 7-9.
