Edmond Ching, a graduate of the University of Western Sydney and a partner with Deloitte & Touche’s Restructuring Services in Shanghai, has won the 2012 CPA ACAA Award for Banking and Finance.
Mr Edmond Ching graduated from the University of Western Sydney with a Master of Business Administration and is now a Partner of Restructuring Services (RS) with Deloitte & Touche Financial Advisory Services Limited and is based in Shanghai.
With over 25 years experience in the financial sector, Mr Ching’s specialization is in the area of corporate rescue and recovery, corporate and debt restricting, and receivership and liquidation. In 2005, Mr Ching was responsible for establishing Deloitte’s Restructuring Service office in Shanghai – Deloitte’s first RS office to be based in Mainland China. He has overseen this project, building the office from one employee to 60 full time staff, including five partners in five offices across China including Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Guangzhou and Dongguan.
Mr Ching was the lead partner on Deloitte’s first case, an appointment by a PRC court for a new bankruptcy law on the restructuring of a PRC manufacturing company involving over 1,600 creditors.
He is also a fellow member of CPA Australia, and was the Vice-President of the CPA Australia Shanghai Committee in 2005 and 2006. He is also the holder of the Special Designation (Insolvency) award from the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Mr Ching says the Australian study experience, particularly his MBA course, has enriched his understanding of the Western way of thinking and the Western ways of doing business.
“This has assisted me in understanding the needs of my MNC clients in China,” he says.
Mr Ching says highlights of his career include the execution of his first successful restructuring case in China. ■
