Griffith University graduate, Dr Pan Xiaochuan, has won this year’s AusAID Scholarships Australia China Alumni Award for his work in the field of public health and environment.
Dr Pan Xiaochuan is Professor at the Peking University Health Science Centre and is based in Beijing. He is also an Adjunct Professor at Griffith’s School of Public Health.
Dr Pan completed an Australian Leadership Award fellowship at Griffith University working in priority areas such as climate change and health to advance regional policy objectives and increase institutional capacity of Australian partner countries such as China.
Dr Pan has had 20 articles published in high impact environmental health and climate change internationally refereed journals.
An international grant titled, The study for interactions between air particles and climate change with relation to health effects of population in China, was funded by the Natural Science Foundation of China (2010-2012).
Other work includes the supervision of nine graduate students in his research team with projects focused on climate change, air pollution and related health effects in China and a PhD and two Master of Public Health supervisions in 2010.
ACAA Awards judge, Dr Bai Xuezhu, said Professor Pan’s work at Peking University, one of the most prestigious universities in China, put him in an influential position not just in his academic field, but also in the policy making field for public health in China.
Dr Bai said Professor Pan, as a leading scholar with great achievements in his field in China, had published papers, often in some of the most prestigious journals and had chaired and participated in many national and international projects over the years. ■
