AustCham Shanghai has announced the theme for its 2012 Great Australian Ball XVII: ‘Once Upon a Time….Memories of Childhood’ in which revellers will be invited to dress up in all things relating to child’s play.

The annual ball is AustCham Shanghai’s biggest social event of the year, raising funds for its Corporate Social Responsibility partners and attracting as many as 700 partygoers on the night.

This year’s ball will be held on Saturday, September 8.

Renowned as the best of its kind in Shanghai, the annual Great Australian Ball is distinct from other international Chamber of Commerce galas with the Australian spirit kicking off a themed party and festive atmosphere.
Last year, 580 people celebrated at the ‘Great Southern Land….A Night Under the Australian Sky’ themed Ball. The evening included an Australian drover on horseback, candlelit campfires on tables and a sensational 3-course Australiana dinner and dancing to raise more than 320,000 yuan for the Shanghai Municipal Welfare Foundation for the Disabled – an AustCham Shanghai Corporate Social Responsibility partner.
This year, guests will be transported back to their childhood and the magic of youth with a Sydney Luna Park-inspired spectacle of Play School and Possum Magic, bunk beds and barbies, Lego, slinkees, slurpees and Sesame Street.
The Chamber invites all Australians and their friends based in Shanghai to revel once more in the age of innocence.
Funds raised will be donated to AustCham Shanghai Corporate Social Responsibility partners the Renewal Centre, a drop-in resource centre and employment assistance initiative for Shanghai’s homeless population (the majority of whom are migrants), and the TCT Foundation for the Children of China.
Tickets go on sale to AustCham Shanghai members on August 6, and to the general public on August 9.
Pre-registration for tickets opens on Monday, July 16. Tickets will be sold on a member-priority ‘first come, first serve’ basis.
