People Watch: March April 2011

ANZ has appointed Dr Charles Li as CEO of ANZ China, replacing Christine Ip who has returned to Singapore. Dr Li will report to Gilles Planté, Chairman ANZ China and CEO North East Asia, Europe & America and will be based in Shanghai.

Dr Li joins ANZ from Royal Bank of Scotland Group, where he was most recently Country Executive and Head of Global Banking Markets for China.
 
Jen Tyrell has recently arrived in Beijing to take up the position of Counsellor (Education) at the Australian Embassy where she will work with Iain Watt, Minister Counsellor (Education), to promote cooperation with overseas education stakeholders, enhance government to government relations and provide strategic and policy intelligence on developments in the education sector. Jen has relocated from Canberra where she has worked for the Australian Government Education Department in a range of roles over the past nine years. She replaces Quentin Stephenson Perks in Beijing who has returned to Canberra to take up the position of Interim National Education Manager, Austrade, following the 2010 transfer of responsibility for the promotion of marketing of Australian education to Austrade.
 
China Southern Airlines has appointed Mr Henry He as Regional Manager Australia and New Zealand. Mr He will be based in the airline’s regional office in Sydney, and will be responsible for the company’s next phase of development in the Australasian region. Mr He has held a wide range of finance, planning and management roles in the airline industry since 1988. Prior to his latest appointment, he was General Manager of the China Southern Airlines Taiwan branch, based in Taipei.
 
After nearly six years in Shanghai as CEO China, Which Property, Colette Chester will be returning to the company’s Brisbane office in Australia. Colette played an active role within Shanghai’s Australian community, serving on the AustCham Shanghai board for three years. Colette is replaced in China by Kim Gilliland, who recently completed a stint as interim executive director, AustCham Shanghai, and prior to that in Beijing, as Media Monitors China Sales Director.
 

Ricky Niu
has been appointed as the University of Technology Sydney’s new China Senior Manager. Ricky will be responsible for consolidating the university’s presence in China, promoting the UTS brand, managing UTS strategic stakeholder relationships in China, and managing pathway & articulation programmes. Previously, Ricky was the North Asia Marketing Manager at Chisholm Institute of TAFE and has also held positions with Eduglobal, a subsidiary of Navitas Group in China.
 
emily_dun_thumbEmily Dunn has joined AustCham Shanghai as the new Communications & Industry Committees Coordinator. Emily’s previous role was with the Queensland Government’s participation at Shanghai World Expo managing marketing and communications. Emily will be responsible for the Chamber’s overall communications and coordination of active industry committees.
 
AustCham Shanghai has welcomed new Honorary Advisors to the Board of Directors, Dr Ben Lyons and MrPeter Kinnane. Ben and Peter have extensive experience and expertise in communications and events management in China and will provide valuable strategic leadership. David Rosenthal has also been appointed a board director for AustCham Shanghai, replacing Darren Lewis from Sai Cheng Logistics who recently returned to Australia. David is the Associate Director, Corporate & Institutional Relationships of ANZ China.
 
The Australia China Alumni Association has bid farewell to Veronica Walker, the Australian Youth Ambassador for Development and ANU alumna who has been working as ACAA Regional Projects Officer for the past 12 months. Veronica helped the association reach more alumni across China as well as supporting and promoting events outside Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.
 
shary_zhang-austrade_thumbShary Zhang has recently joined Austrade as a Business Development Manager in Clean Tech in Austrade’s Beijing Office. Previously, Shary worked for ENN Group, one of the largest private clean energy companies in China. She has extensive marketing experience in the solar sector. Shary has a Bachelor Degree in Science & Technology English and Financial Management and a Master Degree in Foreign Linguistics and Applied Linguistics from Tianjin University, China.
