People Watch November-December 2009

Lyndall Sachs is the new Commissioner General for Australia and Executive Director of the Shanghai World Expo Unit for DFAT. Lyndall will oversee all aspects of Australia’s participation at the biggest world expo in history. Lyndall is a long-serving officer of the Department and has most recently served as Australia’s Ambassador to Lebanon.

Susan Dietz-Henderson has returned to Beijing as the Chief Representative of Capital Strategy Research Inc Beijing Representative Office, which opened in July 2009. Capital Strategy Research is a wholly owned affiliate of The Capital Group Companies Inc, a US-based investment management company. Susan is a former career diplomat with the Australian Government, serving most recently as Australia’s Consul General in Shanghai until 2008. Susan’s first China posting was to Beijing in 1989.

China Southern Airlines has appointed Adam Zhang as General Manager Melbourne, and Deputy General Manager Australia. Adam was previously Deputy Manager, Passenger Marketing and Sales, in the airline’s International Business Department, and prior to that, Deputy Manager of China Southern’s Northern branch ticketing centre in China. In his new role, Adam will be responsible for China Southern’s airline operations in Melbourne and passenger sales activities in Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia and Western Australia. His arrival coincides with the airline’s introduction to Melbourne of a third weekly Airbus A330-200 flight to Guangzhou.

Jenny Wang has been appointed the new Chief Representative of CPA Australia’s Beijing Representative Office. Prior to joining CPA Australia, Jenny served in various management, business development and training positions for Tsinghua University, Farsighted Group, Haier Group and JS.B.V. She holds an MA degree from the ISS in the Netherlands, and a BA degree from China’s Shaanxi Normal University.

Malcolm Zancanaro has transferred from Hong Kong to take up the position of hotel manager of Grand Hyatt Beijing at Oriental Plaza. Malcolm, has worked for Hyatt for more than 18 years in Sydney, Sanctuary Cove, Melbourne, and Perth prior and then Grand Hyatt Shanghai in 2004. In 2008, Malcolm was appointed director of food and beverage – Asia Pacific, based in Hyatt’s Regional Office in Hong Kong before taking up his new appointment at Grand Hyatt Beijing in July.

Ben Lyle (pictured right playing for the China Reds football team) is returning to Hooker Cochram’s Sydney office after more than two and a half years with the company in China.
For the past 16 months, Ben has been working in Suzhou on a project-based role working on the renovation and extension of a manufacturing facility for a large multinational client. Ben is replaced by Richard Veale who has relocated to Shanghai from Hooker Cochram’s Sydney office.

Jack Zhang has joined the Beijing office of Australian business consulting firm, Beijing Consulting Group which operates across China. Jack has worked in international business in Beijing for nearly a decade. He takes on the role of Senior Project Manager.
