Australia China Business Week 2013

For the first time in its five-year history, this year’s Australia-China Business Week will be held in Mainland China – in Shanghai from April 10 to April 12.

Since its launch five years ago, ACBW, an annual business platform to promote Sino-Australian business investment relations, has grown to become the premier annual event serving to strengthen Sino-Australian business links across all industry sectors by establishing and strengthening business connections.

The event has previously been held in Melbourne and Sydney.

The Shanghai event will consist of a keynote breakfast and luncheon, a number of forums, business matching sessions, networking function and day-trip to the influential second-tier city Hangzhou.

The events will provide delegates with the opportunity to connect with Chinese partners; showcase Australian products, services, projects and investment opportunities to potential Chinese investors; review economic and business opportunities in China; and gain firsthand knowledge about how to maximise business in China from local experts.

Spiro Pappas, Chief Executive Officer, Asia for NAB, which recently signed on as the event’s title sponsor, said the bank firmly believed the scope of economic collaboration between China and Australia was far-reaching and would continue to expand.

“Supporting events such as the ACBW enables both businesses in Australia and China to establish relationships and to capitalise on mutual opportunities,” said Mr Pappas.

Key industry sectors featured at ACBW 2013 include Food and Agriculture, Healthcare and Biotech, Technology, Clean Energy, Education, Professional Services, Property, Infrastructure.

“Our main focus is the SME sector, who depend more on external resources, partners and platforms when seeking opportunities in international markets,” said John Rashleigh, Chairman of Australian Business Forum.

“Our aim is to create a credible business platform for businesses to connect with the right contacts and have access to timely information,” Mr Rashleigh said.

The Australian Business Forum (ABF) is an Australian independent non-political organisation that supports Australian companies hoping to do business in China and elsewhere in Asia. It is committed to identifying and understanding knowledge gaps for Australian SMEs, bringing together industry leaders, leading international academics, senior government officials, economists and other community leaders to provide input and advice, while establishing high quality platforms to facilitate dialogue, business and partnerships.

ABF has developed a range of SME-focused initiatives, including Australia-China Business Week, Asia Pacific Business Outlook and China Lunch Club.
