KEVIN WALE
If anyone knows a thing or two about leadership in a global environment, it’s Kevin Wale, an Australian alumnus who currently oversees approx. 35,000 staff in his role as President and Managing Director of General Motors, China.
In January, ACAA members spent an evening with Kevin, and heard his insights on everything from managing stress after hours, to strategies for effective communication between different departments within an organization.
Kevin has been President of General Motors, China since 2005, and in 2009 was awarded a prestigious Magnolia award – awarded by the Shanghai Municipal Government to foreigners that have made outstanding contributions to the economic and social development of Shanghai. The ACAA again thanks Kevin kindly for his time and wishes him all the best for the year of the tiger!
ALUMNI PROFILE: HOLLY LI
Holly Li, Regional Head, North China, Adidas Greater China
Holly Li heads adidas North China operations and was a finalist in the 2009 CPA Australia Alumni of the Year. An alumna of the Macquarie Graduate School of Management, where she graduated with an MBA in 2003, Holly has since enjoyed strong success in her career with adidas.
In 2004, Holly was promoted to senior business development manager and later in 2005, was again promoted to Regional Director, North China, overseeing all operations in North China including distribution management and business development. These huge responsibilities made her one of the earliest promoted Chinese directors inside adidas.
In 2008, she was tasked with reaching major stretch goals in North China and building a successful “impossible is nothing” story for the Beijing Olympics. The successful 2008 Olympics event also further confirmed adidas as a market leader in China, and performance in the North China region was a major driver of this success. Under Holly’s leadership, adidas North China has seen dramatic achievements including being awarded the “The Best Growth Region, 2007-2008” within the company.
Meanwhile, Holly was awarded “The Best Coach” within adidas China in 2007 through an internal staff e-vote. This was largely due to her efforts in developing and mentoring young managers. adidas North China also received the honour of being one of “China’s Top employers (07- 08), Beijing area”, awarded by CRF. Between managing a multi-functional force for adidas North China and raising her young family, Holly still manages to find time to support the Macquarie Graduate School of Management’s China Study Visits, which started as an annual event in 2003. ■
